The Routine is Key: Skincare for You and Me

Poppy here, reporting for duty! Remember how I came up with some ideas for skincare and how to make your own in your very own kitchen? If you don’t, you can check out my post about that here.
Well, GirlMoguls, I am really starting to believe that my love for science may lead me to a career in skin care. This is because so much of skin care actually relates to the way things work in our bodies, and with our bodies. All of the new products coming out now all start in a science lab. Scientists have figure out new ways to reduce this wrinkle and that wrinkle, or stop this pimple and cure that acne. I love reading about how the ingredients in all the various skin care products work to do what they say they do. Scientists have discovered so many new ingredients to keep everyone looking young and healthy; it’s really amazing what’s packed in that little jar of cream!
I recently found out some good skin care tips for girls like you and me. Even though we’re not in the peak of teens and dealing with cases of acne, stress, and hormones, it’s still important to keep the skin on your face clean and healthy, in order to ensure clean skin in the future! So, what’s the big secret? The 3-step routine! Every day, it’s important to make a habit out of this skin care routine: cleanse, tone, and moisturize.
Step 1: Cleanse your face. It’s important to wash your face with a gentle face cleanser everyday either when you wake up or before you go to bed. This is important because it cleans all the pores on your face and takes out the dirt and oils.
Step 2: Use toner. Toner is basically a neutral, refreshing liquid that can be applied from a cotton ball all over the face. Basically, toner balances out the pH of your skin cells. (pH is a way to measure whether a substance is acidic or basic, and it’s always good to be neutral, like water, which makes up most of our cells. The toner helps neutralize that.)
Step 3: Moisturize! Now, I know you may be thinking, “Won’t moisturizer make my skin more oily?” But, it actually does the opposite. When you wash your face, you take out the oils that clog your pores and cause pimples. Moisturizer puts back good moisture into your face that won’t clog pores.
Follow these three easy steps and you’re on your way to healthy, clean skin! This is a habit you don’t want to break. Also, I found my cleanser, toner, and moisturizer at the local drugstore. Brands like Neutrogena and Olay carry these products for very affordable prices.

Have fun and get clean!
