“Nothing in life is to be feared. It is only to be understood.”
Hello everyone! I hope you week is going well. I found some inspirational words from the original lady in the laboratory herself- Marie Curie! Marie Curie was one of the first women to actually make a name for herself in the worlds of mathematics and science. To learn more about how she paved the way for women, read my biography post here.
Well, let me tell you, I think Marie Curie was not only a smart lady, but also one tough cookie. Remember, she was at the forefront of a completely male dominated field, during a time in which women basically found their entire livelihoods within the realm of the home. What she had to say about fear really makes sense to me. Have you ever heard that famous line that always starts a conversation, “fear of the unknown…”? Well, I think the idea is that most people do fear the unknown. Who knows what’s going to happen in life, or if we will ever achieve our dreams? No one can predict whether or not we will fail or succeed at something. But, if we don’t even try it, if we don’t even take the time to understand the obstacle ahead of us, we will never know the outcome. And, we will probably fear that obstacle because of that.
So, in the end, we cannot fear what we don’t know. We just have to try to understand it. This applies to little things, like my fear of spiders, to big things, like Marie Curie going for something a woman has never done before. I am going to promise you that I am going to take the time out to understand my fears, especially the spiders, in hopes to not be afraid of them anymore. Do you have any fears you’d like to get over with me? Le me know what you thoughts are!
