Blockbuster Summer: Harry is almost here!

People of all ages and all backgrounds find themselves immersed in some of the best-selling fiction novels in history: the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. After the books came to end with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, fans have only one thing to look forward to: the movies.

I know I am a big Harry Potter for a lot of reasons. But, my main reason for loving the series so much is because I can read it for hours without feeling like I’m reading at all! When I was in elementary school, I hated reading. I did everything I could to avoid that book report, and everything I could to put off doing any kind of reading. I never understood why parents like sitting down and reading the newspaper. It all just seemed so BORING. But, after I read the first Harry Potter book, I discovered I actually really liked the feeling of reading. I like the fact that you can escape your own life and dive into this fantastical world full of dreams and drama. Now, the Harry Potter books are still my favorite, but I’m reading lots of other books, too. I like discovering new stories and new worlds through literature.
So, I cannot wait for the 6th movie to come out this week, on Wednesday. It’s Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and it’s supposedly going to be the best movie of the entire year, the critics say. Just to get you even more excited than before, I thought I would share some of the critics’ comments with you. On Rotten Tomatoes, a movie ratings site, the movie is currently at a 97% “fresh” rating, which is amazing. Hollwood.com’s Paul Dergarabedian called the film a “possible Oscar contender”, which is unheard of for films based on novels like young reader’s fiction. The magazine Variety’s Todd McCarthy called the movie “dazzlingly well made”.

Well, I’m super excited about this movie, and so is the rest of my family! Even my parents liked the books! So, what are some of the reasons you like Harry Potter? And remember, check back for my review of the film!

I enjoy the Harry Potter books because my imagination can ‘run wild’ while reading them. The movies are great, but I prefer reading the books first, then waiting for the movie, I will not watch the movie before reading the book. I do this because I think there is alot that is left out in the movie and the books are just better. Also I can see whether what I imagined while reading the book was close to what the author was thinking.
