A Living Legend: The Life of Meryl Streep

So, still curious about what Meryl Streep’s real name is? To catch the new readers up, I told all you GirlMoguls that Meryl Streep’s real name isn’t Meryl at all. So here’s the answer: her first name is actually Mary Louise! She combined it to form Meryl.

GirlMogul Rose, reporting for duty on this real-life GirlMogul biography! Today, I wanted to tell you about one of my absolute all-time favorite actors, Meryl Streep. She is truly a legend on the silver screen, having many Academy Award nominations to her name, as well as a ton of blockbuster movies to her career.

Mary Louise Streep was born on June 22, 1949 in Summit, New Jersey. She grew up in Jersey, and eventually went on to get her Bachelor of the Arts degree from Vassar College. She received her degree in the field of Drama, and then went on to get her MFA, or Master of Fine Arts, from Yale School of Drama. She initially began acting in theater, with a surprising interest in opera. She performed Shakespearean plays, and then made her way into Hollywood with her first role in Julia. She even got an Oscar nomination for her second film, The Deer Hunter, in 1978. Meryl Streep has been nominated for the Oscar (Academy Award) a shocking 16 times, and she has won twice in her career. She won for the movies Kramer vs. Kramer in 1979 and Sophie’s Choice in 1982. Although she became exceedingly popular in the 1980’s, Merly Streep’s popularity never diminished. She appears in some of the most famous movies of all time, and even insanely popular movies debuting today. In of my favorite movies, The Devil Wears Prada, Streep plays a hard-edged magazine editor who carries a secret, disheartening life in private`. Her excellent acting skills carry her from edgy roles like that to more serious roles such as the nun she played in Doubt. I know a lot of us have seen her more recent films, but I suggest going to the movie store and getting a copy of one of her classics to watch with the whole family!
