Ruby’s Tool Kit: map, composition book, all purpose tacky glue, colored pencils, ruler, scissors, stickers 1. Summer is all about vacation. This travel journal is the perfect vacation accessory.

2. Repurpose an old map to make the cover of your journal. Pick a map that shows your travel route.

3. Cut & glue the map to the cover of the composition book. Add stickers & decorative drawings to the journal cover.

Make Your Own Vanity Mirror

“Vanity Mirror Summer Cheer”

Ruby’s Tool Kit:

• scissors
• glue
• holepunch
• grommets
• duct tape,
• suction cup hooks,
• ribbon, silk or plastic flowers

1. Reuse strips of pretty ribbon. Make sure to leave three inches extra to fold over for reinforcement so you can hang it.

2. Fold over top end of ribbon & hot glue down. Two inches from top punch a hole & reinforce with a grommet.

3. Carefully secure flowers with hot glue. Use suction cup hook to hang onto your vanity mirror for a ton of SUMMER CHEER:)

“Green Peace Message Tee”

Ruby’s Tool Kit: plain tee, silk flower petals, fabric glue, scissors, needle & thread

1. Renew a plain tee with silk flower petals.

2. Using fabric glue & secure each petal. Start with a bottom layer.

3. For added durability use a needle & thread lightly stitching petals to tee. Leave the edges of the petals free for a cooler look:)

DIY Project: Venetian Necklaces!

Hey girls. I went to school and there was this awesome guest speaker who is a jewelry artist. She came to art class to teach us how to make a specific necklace called Venetian Necklaces. Here’s what you need:

1. 1 string of seed beads (they come super cheap at any craft store; they are the tiny filler beads)
2. 3 big, main beads in the style of your choice
3. 6 medium sized beads that match the big ones
4. 6 smaller beads that match the rest!
5. Tiger tail (also really cheap at craft stores; its thin titanium used to make necklace instead of string)
6. A closure

Here’s how you make one: I’m going to call the BIG beads “A” beads, the medium beads “B” beads, and the small beads “C” beads to make things easier. Start by cutting a long piece of tiger tail and knot one end. Now you can start beading! Start by stringing about 75 seed beads onto the string. That was easy! Here comes the technique part: next, add a C bead, ONE seed bead, a B bead, ONE seed bead, an A bead, ONE seed bead, a B bead, ONE seed bead, and then lastly, another C bead. Do you see the pattern? It’s called an ellipse, and shaped like an eye. Add about 20 seed beads, then do the pattern again: C, seed, B, seed, A, seed, B, seed, C. Add another 20 seed beads, and then the pattern again: C, seed, B, seed, A, seed, B, seed, C. Add the last 75 seed beads, and knot the other end! You now have a beautiful Venetian style necklace. Make sure you ask your patterns to put on the closer, and wear with pride! Check out the necklaces I made!

DIY Button Bag

Hey GirlMoguls, our friend Ruby, over at www.makeitruby.com just sent us this totally cool new diy craft project – a perfect redo for any old handbag lying around.  You can even head over to a second hand store and pick up a cool bag on the cheap, if you don’t have something at home lying around to re-purpose – oh and that’s another reason why we love this project – giving something old a totally new life…so green (and so ready for Earth Day).

Button Up Retro Bag
Ruby’s Tool Kit: fabric glue, marker, buttons
1. Renew a bag from a second hand store or from your own closet and
make it scream RETRO
2. Apply different color buttons to the bag with a fabric glue.
3. Glue a broach to the front of the bag to add some extra bling.

Make it Ruby’s “All Buttoned Up Magazine Holders”

Ruby’s Tool Kit:

• cereal box
• scissors
• craft knife
• craft paper
• tacky glue
• buttons
• pipe cleaners

Safety First: Always be careful while using a craft knife

All Buttoned Up DIY Magazine Holders

Instructions:

1. Repurpose a empty cereal box into these fashionista magazine holders. Using a craft knife cut from top of the box in a basic curve of your holder.
2. Wrap box with craft paper. Reinforce the top edges by glueing a row of buttons to protect & strengthen magazine holder.
3. Use pipe cleaners to create decorative accents to the front face of the box. This project is perfect for displaying all your must have mags!!!

1. Renew a plain aluminum water bottle & make a difference:) Draw your pattern or design directly on your aluminum water bottle with permanent markers.

2. Choose eco conscious symbols that work with your design & be sure to add your name to the design to show you take pride in taking care of planet Earth.

3. Attach two pieces of pretty ribbon to the carabineer clip. Glue beads & decorative jewels to the ribbon to add the perfect finishing touch:)

DIY Craft - Happy Birthday Candy Bouquet

“Happy B-day Candy Bouquet”

Ruby’s Tool Kit: small flower pot, gift cards, tissue paper, floral foam, plastic fork, construction paper, candy, hot glue gun, Safety First: Always have an adult supervise when using a hot glue gun

1. Repurpose a small flower pot. Hole punch an assortment of gift cards & thread pretty ribbon through it.

2. Secure ribbon to the flower pot with hot glue. Place a small block of floral foam in the pot. Cover it with tissue paper & fill the pot with candy.

3. Make a B-day card out of construction paper & use plastic fork to display it. This gift makes for a sweet treat!

1.     Renew a small plastic make-up pouch that does not have decorative accents.

2.     Recycle your old greeting cards & cut out the design directly from the cards. Attach decorative design with an all purpose tacky glue.

3.     Apply decorative jewels with hot glue. Make sure to let them dry. Your BFF will be sure to scream when she sees her sweet holiday surprise.

Decorating, DIY Christmas Tree

Hey there GirlMoguls – tis the season and in case you were feeling a little clueless about how to get all gussied for the season, I thought I would give you a few handy-dandy tips to make this tree-decorating season a piece of pie. A Christmas tree is the universal symbol for Christmas time. It lights up our homes and reminds us that the holiday season is upon us. It’s by the tree that we keep all of our Christmas gifts for our family and friends. Decorating a Christmas tree is often a family tradition for some people. It can be a fun activity for all ages and a great way to spend some quality time with your loved ones. With Christmas only a few weeks away I am sure most of you are putting up your trees if you already haven’t done so. Here are some quick tips on how to decorate your Christmas tree and have fun while doing it.

Lighting- Before hanging any of your ornaments or garlands you should hang the lights on your trees. By doing so, you will have sections made by the lights on the tree to fill in with ornaments and other decorations. Lighting is the most important part of decorating a Christmas tree and there are a ton to choose from. Make sure you pick the lights that best go with your theme and the look you want for your tree. Lighting on a tree can make all difference in how your tree looks in the end. Make sure you have your parents to help you when decorating the tree with lights. Also, make sure to not plug in the lights until you are completely done decorating the entire tree.

Hey it’s Christmas, have some fun, go wild, use your imagination but always remember to be careful when placing decorations on the tree. You can use a theme for your decorations and get your decorations accordingly. You can also pick a certain color scheme and decorate the tree with those colors. Who said you can only have red, white and green for Christmas. Experiment with different colors and ideas for your tree.

Ornaments- When hanging the ornaments on the tree you can try any pattern or sort them by sections of the tree or just completely randomize the whole thing. There are different ornaments you can get depending on your theme or colors for your tree.

Remember to be different and be unique! I found some super cool ornaments that are handmade out of polymer clay from Dewy and Pat, who have a store on Etsy.
