Just when you thought Sasha and Malia’s summer was starting to cool down, they surprise us once more! The adventurous girls went whitewater rafting with their mother while their father went fly-fishing during a recent trip to Montana. That night, they finished up with a quiet dinner at the Summit hotel at Big Sky Resort by roasting some marshmallows over a fire. Yum!
The next day, the Obama family traveled by car to Yellowstone National Park to do some site seeing. Yellowstone is famous for being the home to “Old Faithful Geyser,” the biggest regular geyser that erupts every 45 to 125 minutes with a height ranging from 90 to 184 feet!
After an eventful summer of visiting famous sites all over the world, it’s great that Sasha and Malia got to see an important landmark in the United States! If you plan on visiting the Midwest (or live there!) make sure you visit Yellowstone National Park like the Obama girls did. The park spans 3,468 square miles and has lakes, canyons, rivers, mountain ranges and even an active volcano!
Sasha and Malia are lucky to be able to see so many historic landmarks and visit a lot of awesome places. I wonder where they’ll travel to next?
Hey Girl Moguls! Do you ever talk to your family or friends about the economy or the recession? I read this interesting report that more girls than boys are worried about their family’s finances. Although I think it’s good that girls are interested in learning about what is happening in today’s economy, I don’t think it’s good that girls are getting so stressed over them! It’s good to be cautious and not overspend, but it’s not good to be too stressed. So what are some good ways you can save money and still be yourself?
How about stopping by thrift stores as part of your back to school shopping? Thrift stores are great places to find awesome vintage clothes at a really cheap price! You never know what kind of treasures you might find at a thrift store, so it’s really fun to explore and see what the good finds are!
Recycle your old notebooks, folders and other school supplies! I know that everyone likes to start a new school year off fresh, but what about those notebooks you used last year that you only used half of? Reuse the notebook for this year! Cove up the old subject or teacher on the notebook with stickers and decorate it so it looks as good as new. There’s no reason to throw out good school supplies just because they’re from last year. Notebooks next go out of style!
It’s good to know what’s going on in the world, so try talking to your family about the economy and ask them about other ways you can help out and save some money, as well as suggesting your own ideas! What kind of ideas have you come up with?
Hi Girl Moguls! It’s Lily, with your weekly White House Round Up! Do you ever have trouble thinking up the perfect birthday present for your dad? Imagine how the Obama girls must feel! August 4th was their dad’s 48th birthday, and although there weren’t any specifics on how the Obama family celebrated the special day or what gifts the President received, it was probably an incredibly fun day. I’m sure that no matter what Sasha and Malia gave their dad, he’s sure to love it! (It’s the unofficial parent rule: they’re always going to love what you get them as long as it comes from the heart.)
Being the generous man he is, President Obama didn’t publically celebrate his own birthday, but instead sang “Happy Birthday” to someone else! Renowned journalist, Helen Thomas, shares the same birthday as the president and turned 89. President Obama presented her with cupcakes and a tune. What could be a better birthday present than the President of the United States singing to you? I can’t think of anything!
What would you give President Obama for a birthday present if you could? Or, even better, what do you think he wished for when he blew out his birthday candles? World peace? Tell me your ideas!
Sasha and Malia’s Summer Travels
Looks like the Obama girls’ summer vacation isn’t over yet! Rose here, with your Weekly White House Round Up! Just last week, we heard about how the Obama girls went on their second summer trip to Russia, Italy and Ghana. I thought that was the end of their summer travel plans but apparently there’s more! Sasha and Malia will spend the final week of August with their parents in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts to rest and relax from a busy summer.
I bet you girls are wondering how the rest of Sasha and Malia’s second trip went. While in Italy, the Obama girls got to visit Vatican City, which is the home of Pope Benedict, whom President Obama met with privately while the girls looked around. Immediately after the Vatican, the entire family boarded Air Force One to Ghana, for the last destination of their trip.
While in Ghana, the Obama family went to seaside fortress on Cape Coast that the British used as slave dungeons during the 17th century. This part of the trip might have been hard for the Obama family to witness, however the President said that it’s important for his girls to learn an obligation to fight oppression and learn about history’s cruelty.
From England and France, to Russia, Italy and Ghana, to Massachusetts, the Obama girls are having one interesting summer vacation! I wonder which place they enjoyed the most?
