Quote of the Day – Perseverance, Confidence and Belief in ourselves

"Life is not easy for any of us. But what of that? We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained."  – Marie Curie
An apparent lesson for our girls and women out there.  We must believe we are gifted for something.  We all have special talents and strengths – we need to encourage our daughters to find them and develop (focus on strengths as opposed to weaknesses).  It doesn’t have to be a unique talent or strength – you may be gifted with an eye for color, or arranging things.  You may be gifted in solving mathematical problems.  The fact is you can develop your strengths and talents and take confidence from that into your everyday life.  You may take your strengths and talents and decide to make a living from them.  Either way, spending time doing something you like, enjoy and are good at, builds confidence that exudes into every other area of your life.

Quote of the Day – Self Esteem

"Self Esteem isn’t everything; it’s just that it’s the only thing." Gloria Steinem

The perfect thing to remember.  If you don’t love yourself, no one else .  And self esteem will keep you up when everything is going down.  Self-esteem is a daily thing – just because you have it one day, doesn’t mean it shows up the next day – it’s something you have to work on – at least it is for most of us.  Practice makes perfect and you can practice self-esteem – or at least fake it until you make it.

All this talk leads us to an exciting new product from GirlMogul – we’re proud to offer best-selling author Catherine Dee’s Girl Power Kits, featuring Catherine’s wonderful books containing quotes and inspiration for girls 8-12.   There’s even a special kit to encourage self-esteem, featuring the book "The Girl’s Guide to Life." Guess who’s a fan – no less than Ms. Steinem herself.  Click here to browse – these make great gifts.

How I Wish I had been a Girl Scout

GirlScouts ad.jpg

The above is a new ad for the newer hipper Girl Scouts.  I wrote about their image makeover yesterday and I thought I would spend a few posts exploring the Girl Scouts.

First off – I regret not being a scout – maybe it was all cooking and cookies when I was the right age, but it’s not any more.  The Girl Scouts are really promoting leadership and business skills.  They have partnered with Angela and Vanessa Simmons (daughters of Run DMC who is now a reverend) to promote business skills.  Here is their part of the site  so you can check them out for yourself.  Apparently, Run has an MTV reality show, Run’s House.  Sounds like the exact opposite of Meet the Osbornes (thank goodness).

Tomorrow – I’ll be looking at more of the Girl Scout programs and talking about them.  As always – anyone involved with the Girl Scouts – please post – I would love to know what you think about this new partnership with MTV reality TV stars – is it good or bad – is the show itself something that is inspiring and encouraging to girls?
