I remember my first chemistry set - I faked being sick to stay home with it. Even though I never became the next "Bones", I loved mixing up concoctions - especially ones that fizzed and exploded. I even tried to make lotion from seaweed and hoped to build my own natural line of skincare products. Turns out it was pretty hard to get the smell of seaweed out of the lotion (nevermind the kitchen) but I'll never forget how proud I was of that lotion bottle.
Times have changed, but we know research indicates girls become less interested in math and science at puberty. So what is the best way to engage them? Wrap science into activities that they are already interested in.
