Twilight’s New Moon Banks In at the Box Office, but Not to Me

Hey GirlMoguls, here is my review of New Moon as promised! For those that are unfamiliar with The New Moon, it is the Chris Weitz directed film based on the popular fantasy novel from The Twilight series. It’s the sequel to 2008’s Twilight which was the first of its series. The film stars Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, as they reprise their roles from the first film. After reading about all the records it had set in its initial week of release and the tremendous success of the film, I had great expectations going to watch it. However, I was pretty disappointed after watching the film. It certainly did not meet my expectations and I saw too many flaws in the film.

The acting felt very amateurish and the dialogue delivery to me was very weak. The melodrama was too much at certain parts of the film and the weak dialogues didn’t help either. Bella Swan’s acting in the film was very monotonous and hard to appreciate as a viewer. She had the same expressions throughout and it made it hard to enjoy watching her act on screen. Also, Bella’s character in the movie gives a very bad example of a young teenage girl to all the young girls that are huge followers of the Twilight series. It basically shows Bella not doing anything and very unhappy except when she is with the love of her life. She has her male friends protect her and look out for her. She doesn’t seem to have any interest in anything nor does she have a personality. Not a GirlMogul in my opinion! The only thing she cares about is the love of her life, and she is willing to give up herself for it. Her on screen dialogues with Edward Cullen lacked real emotions and was not believable. I mean, there was no chemistry between the leads and it made the movie a drag.

The one good thing from the movie is the action sequences. It is a huge improvement from the first film, but still not enough to salvage the lackluster acting to me. For those that have read the books and are wondering if it stays true to the story or if the film captured most of the content, according to a lot of fans, it has. If you are not a fan of Twilight and are debating whether or not to go watch it for the sake of watching a good film, I would recommend you skip out on this one. If you are a die-hard Twilight fan then you should watch it and decide yourself.
