Hey there, I'm Andrea, a mom, wife, project manager, chaueffeur, volunteer and freelance writer. But most of all I'm the CFO - chief finanancial officer of my family. For the better or worse, I do the majority of the spending.
I pay the bills, remember when to buy birthday presents, you know the usual mom-stuff. A couple of years ago, the hubby and I were facing some major financial decisions (Hello, 3 kids and college) and we took some time to really go through our finanances.
And it was an eye-opener. We went through a step by step budgeting process that really helped us see where our money was going.
And while some it wasn't surprising - mortgage, car, etc, what rally threw us for a loop was how much we were spending on food!
While it didn't seem like we ate out a lot or went to fancy places, our takeout, eating out and grocery expense was HUGE (way above those average numbers).
So I began asking around, to find out if I was doing something wrong.
Now, while most people won't tell you how much they make, they're more than willing to let 'complain' about the price of groceries or how much it cost to take the family out for lunch.
And while I got the sense that maybe we were averagish among the people I knew, it didn't make me feel any better about how much we were spending.
And then I did some research - and I found out there were families out there who were spending way, way, way less on food -and using that money for REAL STUFF...like one parent being able to stay home, paying for college, investing...buying a beach house.
When I looked at out family spending, I realized that there wasn't a lot of places to cut - I didn't want to sell my house and move someplace else, or sell my car and start to ride my bike (both of which were impractical.
BUT I was sold on saving us some money...so I decided to attack our food spending...and that's when I became a FRUGAL FOODIE...
And now I want to share everything I've learned with you....to help you
